There’s no other place on earth quite like Acatenango. Sitting at 3,976m next to a super active Volcan Fuego and overlooking at other 8 stratovolcanoes, lakes and ocean on the horizon.
Embark on out-of-this-world adventure with our two-day Acatenango Volcano Hike. We will explore the majestic countryside near Antigua, trekking up slopes covered in pine and cypress trees until we arrive at the summit of this breathtaking volcano! Admire formidable views of Volcán de Fuego regularly barrel clouding towards the sky, as well as impressive views over Lake Atitlán from your highest point.
Join us on our 2 day volcano hike to Acatenango. The team has developed a tour package so you can get the best experience on your trip to Guatemala. We have something in mind for the average person to be able to hike 3.5 hours up and 2 hours down the Volcano and be able to capture one of the most incredible volcanoes on earth. Climbing to 3,976m is no easy feat but we have a service that will help you get there in every step of the way. We have you covered in every aspect from food to gear, camp, transportation and more.
BASE CAMP FACILITIES: We guarantee to provide you with the best base camp facilities on the volcano. We have built A frame cabins as shelter for eruptions and weather. Stay warm with the cold temperatures and strong winds this volcano presents. In case of an eruption with the magnitude of the one in June 2018, you can remain safe inside. In addition to the cabins we also provide you with a dinner room and a comfy chair fire pit with a view to Volcano de Fuego and the stars.
FUEGO HIKE (EXTRA Q200): In addition to the Acatenango hike, we are offering an
add-on hike that compliments the original hike. After you reach the Acatenango basecamp, we go to the Fuego Volcano summit
for sunset in order to be as close as 150m to the exploding crater, with it’s beautiful and unique view.
The hike is harder as it
adds 3 hours of round trip hike. You are required to be at the base camp by 2:30 pm for departure. This addition to the tour costs an extra
Q200. No rush on deciding if you want to hike to Fuego when you book, you can decide if you are going when you reach our basecamp,
and if you go to Fuego Volcano you will have to pay the Q200 the next day when you come back to our agency in Antigua. Our
minimum to make the tour run is 4 people.PLEASE FOLLOW OUR GUIDES INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUEGO HIKE, IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!
We guarantee to have the best available gear in Antigua to ensure you get the best out of your hike. We include the Essential Gear * in all the prices of the hike. There are extras that you can count with at your discretion. Rent the gear you need on the day of the hike from 07:00. When we set off to make Wicho & Charlie’s, we made a promise to always give back, protect the environment
and animals. There’s no better improvement than to make the menu plant based. Keeping in mind the right amount of nutrients and calories
needed on this hike, we made a Plant Based menu (and GF) for all our hikers. Be at ease as we didn’t sacrifice flavor and never will.
The food we provide is enough for the average person, hiking Acatenango. If you plan on hiking Fuego and Acatenango, we
recommend bringing additional +500cal.
